Bright

As September comes, and daylight saving starts again in October, may ride is in the harsh daylight.  There is little left of the soft morning light by the time I am on the road.  In the afternoon, on my way home, sunblock is more important than spare batteries for my lights.

While many photographers shy away from this harsh light, it does still bring opportunities, especially for infra-red photography.  Even though the heat of the day hasn’t eased, the evening does still bring some opportunities for some saturated vistas.

St Kilda rd - Trams are so iconically Melburnian. Their tracks can be a curse to cyclists if you don't take care when crossing them. (Infra red)Altona beach - The high amount of infra red light reflected by the chlorophyll in the leaves of the Norfolk pines makes the empty beach look stark and ghostly.Altona Esplanade - An infra red image taken in strong sunlight creates a powerful contrast.Altona - Looking back to the city, it is hard to believe that was the start of my ride home.Laverton creek - Late afternoon clouds, drawn by the strong wind, guide the eye to the horizon.
